The main news to come out of La Liga over the international break was the sacking of Real Sociedad boss Eusebio. He did a good job of lifting the team following the disappointing David Moyes reign and guided them to Europe last term. However things have gone badly wrong this term and his replacement has plenty of things to work on.
The new boss is Imanol Alguacil with the Sociedad B team boss getting a promotion until the end of the season, when it seems likely they will get a new man in. Imanol’s only previous managerial experience is with reserve and youth teams at Sociedad so he’s a bit of a novice at this level and this is a tricky game to start with.
Sociedad have never previously got a point away to their Basque rivals Eibar in the top flight and they go into this one as underdogs too. Eibar’s European challenge has faded a bit though with just 4 points from their last 6 games. They have had a tough run of fixtures though with that period including home defeats against Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Their dip in form coupled with Sociedad being under new management makes this a bit of a tough one to call. However it does feel like a game that should produce goals. Eibar average an impressive 1.67 goals per game in front of their own fans while all of their last three league matches have produced goals at both ends.
Sociedad meanwhile have been one of the teams to watch for goals at both ends this term. They’ve the division’s 4th best goalscoring record but 4th worst defensive record. 69% of their league matches have seen both teams score and they’ve only failed to score in 17% of their matches which suggests there will at least be a goal in this for them.
Overall there certainly looks to be value in backing Both Teams to Score here and it’s a game where neither side has any reason to settle for a point.
Backing Willian Jose to score anytime also looks good and he’s without question Real Sociedad’s most likely scorer. He’s scored in 6 of his last 7 games for the San Sebastian club, a run which has seen him break into the Brazil squad and put himself in the frame for a trip to the World Cup this summer.
Head To Head
Eibar have won all of their previous three home games against Real Sociedad in La Liga. However they did lose 3-1 in San Sebastian earlier this season.
