The China Cup is in it’s second instalment now, but unfortunately for the host nation this one has gone even worse than their debut competition. The first instalment saw them lose 2-0 against Iceland before winning the 3rd place playoff on penalties, and whilst another 3rd place finish is still possible, their failure on Friday will haunt them for a while.
They were battered 6-0 at the hands of Wales, ending any hope of winning this friendly tournament and resigning them to their 6th match without a victory. Four of these have ended in defeat too, and their back to back wins at the end of World Cup qualifying seem a long time ago now.
Those back to back wins did little to make up for the expected disappointment of missing out on the World Cup this summer. They finished 5th in their group, with Iran and South Korea qualifying and Syria and Uzbekistan both finishing above them too.
Czech Republic will also miss out on a spot in Russia. They finished 3rd in their qualifying group, unsurprisingly behind group winners Germany but disappointingly four points adrift of Northern Ireland too.
They, like their opponents, ended their campaign with back to back wins. Unlike their opponents they continued this form on though, beating Iceland and Qatar in friendlies back in November. They couldn’t do the same against Uruguay on Friday though, losing 2-0 against an admittedly strong squad.
The visitors will feel pretty confident about their chances here though. China haven’t won any of their last four home matches and have failed to score in three of those. In fact, China have failed to score in each of their last eight defeats at home and in eight of their last 13 overall results at home.
This makes a Czech Republic Win to Nil bet look very promising for Monday, so we’re backing that along with a comfortable 2-0 correct score predictions.
Head To Head
This will be the first meeting between these nations.
