SC Freiburg – Stuttgart

Both sides come into this game off the back of draws, and with Stuttgart sitting in 10th place on 34 points, their status in the division looks rather secure. Freiburg find themselves in a more ominous position in 13th and five points above the drop zone, meaning any real downturn in form could see them being dragged into a relegation scrap. A victory on Friday for the home side would make them feel a lot better about themselves and they won’t be looking over their shoulders so much.

The away side come into this fixture as slight underdogs. There is reason to see why when looking a little deeper into the Stuttgart’s form when away from home this season. Stuttgart have only two victories on the road this season and those wins are hardly anything impressive. One win came against bottom of the league side Koln, who also maintain the worst home record in the league.

To strengthen the home sides case, their record in front of their own crowd is rather impressive. Freiburg’s only home defeats have come when they have faced the top two. With the other home games they have played, five have resulted in victories and three have been drawn against those outside the top six. Whilst Freiburg’s recent form doesn’t look fantastic on face value, two of the last six games have been against top four opponents. Therefore, a home result looks to be decent value here. With Stuttgart’s recent form, Freiburg ‘draw no bet’ looks like a safer selection than an outright win in this match up and offers a solid bet when taking into account Freiburg’s home form.

This matchup is likely not to be the most entertaining of affairs though. The two sides have found goals hard to come by this season and its likely to be the case again this Friday night. Stuttgart are the 2nd lowest scorers in the division whilst Freiburg are the league’s 5th lowest scorers. Another factor to take into account would be that of Stuttgart’s last 14 matches, 12 have resulted in under 2.5 goals. For our alternative tip, a Freiburg win and under 3.5 goals looks like a fantastic outside bet if you fancy the home side for the win.

Head To Head

Stuttgart have won four of the previous six meetings of the two sides and won the previous meeting between the two 3-0 earlier in the season.
