Levante – Eibar

The battle at the bottom is a very tight one and with all of the bottom four looking poor, results such as Levante’s 1-0 win at Getafe last time out are simply massive. It was their first fixture under Paco López so it was a dream start for the new boss and it leaves Levante with a four point cushion on the bottom three.

Levante had gone 15 league matches without a win prior to that, with a last minute equaliser denying them victory over Espanyol in their last home game. It was that run which led to the dismissal of Juan Muñiz but they will take encouragement from their last two performances and believe they can get another good result here.

Eibar meanwhile have European ambitions and will also be very hungry for the points. Their last five fixtures have seen them take on the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid, so a return of 4 points from those games is no great disaster but has just knocked them back in the race for Europa League football.

Eibar in recent seasons have started strongly but faded away and they’ll be keen to ensure there is no repeat this term. They could really do with three points here to close the gap to Girona in 7th and they are favourites to get them. However they do only average 1.15 points per game away from home and that’s perhaps a bit short of where it needs to be if they are to seriously challenge for Europe.

A month or so back you might have fancied them to win this game but with their only victory in their last five outings a narrow 1-0 win over an out of sorts Villarreal at home, they clearly aren’t at their best. With a new manager at the helm and with spirits lifted by last weekend’s win, Levante look capable of getting a result.

However it’s hard to feel confident about backing them to clinch all three points. They’ve only won four times all season in La Liga and only twice since September. Only Malaga have picked up fewer home points than Levante, who have now gone 10 home league games without tasting victory.

They have though crucially been scraping enough draws to keep their points tally moving up. They are La Liga’s draw specialists with 43% of their league matches this term finishing level and backing the Draw here looks like the smart bet again in what should be a close game.
