Roda can’t move out of the bottom three with a win on Friday night, but the three points would take them above Twente and to within a point of Breda. Heracles’ victory over Zwolle last weekend pretty much rules them out of this seasons relegation battle as the mid table club are now on thirty points, thirteen above the relegation zone. The hosts have to start picking up wins at home if they are to avoid the dreaded drop this season, but confidence is bound to be fragile after a run of six games without a victory.
When the two sides met for their reverse fixture back in September, hosts Heracles had to come from behind to take all three points. Roda broke the deadlock as early as the fifth minute when Paulissen was set up by van Peppen. That goal saw the visitors go in at the break with the advantage and Heracles knew they needed to perform much better during the second forty-five. Just six minutes after the restart Heracles found themselves level thanks to a neat finish from Pröpper, and from then on the hosts dominated possession without ever really doing enough with the ball in the final third. Roda sat back and attempted to close up shop, and for a while that tactic appeared to be working. However, with almost the final kick of the game Vermeij pinched all three points for the hosts deep into stoppage.
With two wins, two draws, and two defeats from their last six league games, it’s Heracles who head into Friday’s game as the clear form favourites. Roda, without a win in their last six matches, have only managed two draws and four defeats during that same period. However, we’re expecting to see goals in this game, as six of the last seven matches between the pair have seen both sides score. Roda have seen five of their last six matches in league and cup end with both teams scoring, while the same can be said about four of Heracles last six.
Swedish striker Gustafson top scores in the league for Roda with seven goals so far, while Niemeijer leads the way in the Eredivisie for Heracles with eight goals to his name. Both teams have goals in them and poor defensive records, which suggests their is a high chance we will get goals at both ends of the pitch on Friday.
We’re confident that both teams will score in this game as they have done in six of their last seven meetings, and this season both teams have been poor at the back and looked half decent going forward. In terms of a final score, we have gone with a 1-1 draw as Heracles don’t have the best of away records but are the form favourites and Roda should battle hard at home with the threat of relegation looming large.
Head To Head
These two clubs have met twenty-eight times before, and with 13 wins, 7 draws, and 8 defeats it’s Roda who hold a five win lead in the head to head record.
