AC Milan head to Lazio on Wednesday night ahead of their crunch second leg of this Coppa Italia semi-final, after a 0-0 draw in the first leg. What better way is there to head in to a game of this size than with a 12 game unbeaten run behind them? Well, the Rossoneri are fresh from a 2-0 win at this ground on Sunday night, as they saw off Roma to continue their late surge for the Champions League spots. Things are lining up for a solid finish to the season for Gennaro Gattuso and his men, with the former midfielder producing a shocking turnaround in Milan’s fortunes.
Gattuso hasn’t done anything revolutionary, he’s simply getting good players to play well. However, that’s not been the easiest thing for Milan this season, following their summer transfer splurge. That big spend is starting to come good for Milan, who will be hoping to continue their great form away to Lazio this week. However, the Aquile were finalists last season, and they went on to win the Supercoppa in the summer. Can they follow that up with another run to the final as they look to win more silverware?
Lazio are going to have a tough job getting a win here, given that Milan are looking really impressive. They’ve won their last five games on the spin, all of which have come to nil. It’s a Milan defence which is living up to the quality talents they have to call upon, and Roma’s failure to score on Sunday shows that Lazio will have a tough time breaking through on Wednesday night.
Milan seem perfectly set up for a cup clash like this, because they’re so hard to break down and talented on the counter. Lazio can be caught out at the back, while they don’t have the greatest record against Milan. The Rossoneri have avoided defeat in five of their last six meetings with the Aquile, so we’re backing Milan on the double chance market here. Given their recent winning run and defensive form, we’re also going with a Milan win to nil, which looks like huge value.
Patrick Cutrone has hit form under Gennaro Gattuso, which is handy, given that the rest of Milan’s forward aren’t firing. The forward has scored four times in his previous five, and what’s more impressive is that he’s hit four in their previous three away trips. That includes the opening goal in their trip to the Stadio Olimpico at the weekend, and we see the breakout forward finding the net once again here. He has been opening the scoring frequently, so he’s a good first goalscorer pick, but we’re backing Cutrone to score anytime in this one.
Head To Head
AC Milan took a win and a draw when these two met twice in three days at San Siro last month.
