The odds look to be stacked against lowly Toulouse when Ligue 1 champions Monaco visit this weekend, with the home side just a point outside the division’s relegation zone with 12 games left to play this season. Toulouse are currently 16th in the table after managing a creditable point away at Amiens last weekend, although goalscoring was again a problem as they registered a blank. The team have scored just 22 times in league action, so it is clear where their problems lie.
Two massive 1-0 wins over Troyes and Nice in recent weeks have got Toulouse out of trouble for now, but they face a mixed bag fixtures wise over the next month, with fellow strugglers Metz and Strasbourg but also Marseille and Lyon all to play. It looks highly likely that they will end up back in the bottom three by the middle of March unless the team can pull off some unexpected results.
Monaco meanwhile look to be back to their best under boss Leonardo Jardim and they have now won four of their last five games. Clearly being dumped out of European competition before the halfway point of the campaign, while disappointing for the club’s players and fans, has allowed Monaco to improve their league form, which was faltering badly after Christmas as they fell behind rivals Lyon and Marseille in the table.
Despite dishing out a 4-0 hammering to Dijon at the weekend, the champions have been rocked by the loss of prolific striker Radamel Falcao. However, it is hoped that the Colombian will return to action by the start of March.
Even taking into account the two sides’ respective league positions, we see a surprise being sprung in this one.
Our advice is to back Toulouse on the Double Chance market, while for our correct score prediction, we see the game ending 2-2.
