What a heartbreaking loss for the Steelers last week. You can question a lot of things, like the catch rule or the fake spike call, but its all in vain at this point. Mike Tomlin knows that and surely his players know now too. They proved to themselves and others that they are at the Patriots level and have to prepare for another possible meeting coming up in January.
The Texans aren’t going to have any January plans. They are now on their 3rd string QB TJ Yates and have only won one of their past six. Last week was an embarrassing blowout loss to the Jags and this week won’t get much better.
The only thing siding with the Texans is the historic performance of the Steelers against poorer teams. Usually Pittsburgh overlooks these games and doesn’t show a ton of concentration, which basically means they’re caught looking ahead. Although this sounds promising for the Texans, there’s still a major problem for Texans hopefuls. Everyone in the league knows that if you somehow contain WR DeAndre Hopkins, then you short-circuit the Texans entire offense. Tomlin knows it, and will double team Hopkins the whole game if necessary.
The trends in this game lean towards the under, as Pittsburgh won’t be at their normal scoring capabilities with WR Antonio Brown out, and the Texans will be struggling to score the entire game. Therefore, backing the under for total points seems the most attractive.
