The rivalry between the two best teams in each conference continues on Christmas day in the Bay Area. The 26-7 Warriors will square off with the 24-9 Cavaliers in what should be the highlight of the day for almost every NBA fan on the planet.
With their mind already set on the Cavaliers, the Warriors had a poor night on Saturday against the Nuggets as they scored only 81 points in a 15-point loss to Denver. Only three players scored in double figures and Kevin Durant was the high point man with just 18 points on 6/17 shooting.
The status of Stephen Curry is still unknown as he recovers from his ankle injury which has caused him to miss his last eight games. The good news for the Warriors is that Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala returned to the line-up against the Nuggets and should be good to go on Monday.
Cleveland is also missing their star point guard as Isaiah Thomas still isn’t ready to make his debut and his replacement Derrick Rose still hasn’t fully returned to the line-up after taking a leave of absence due to personal issues.
Despite not having those two in the line-up, the Cavaliers have improved dramatically in the last month or so. They dropped just two of their last 10 games and have improved to 2nd place in the Eastern conference after the slowest start of Lebron James’ career. Lebron will turn 33 on December 30th, but he has proved the doubters wrong yet again with averages of 28.4 points per game, 8.2 rebounds per game and 9.2 assists per game making him one of the leading candidates for MVP honors.
The Warriors and Cavs split the season series in 2016/17, with the Cavs winning in their own gym on Christmas day 109-108 thanks to a clutch shot from Kyrie Irving. The Warriors returned the favor with a blow-out win 126-91 two weeks later.
It’s hard to go against the home team in the Christmas game, especially if it’s the defending champions. But, with Stephen Curry being questionable for this one I believe the Cavaliers could be within a shot of winning. I’m backing Cleveland Cavaliers +3.5 Point Spread
I believe the game will be a lot closer than the previous match-up was between these two in the regular season. The Warriors offense hasn’t been the same without Stephen Curry and I think both teams will put a bit more emphasis on defense as they will be eager to win this game and make a statement. I’m backing Under 219.5 Total Points to be scored
